Anoni

Guide

Connect Anoni to Claude or ChatGPT.

Normally you anonymise first, then paste. With the connector, your AI reads the document through Anoni. It never sees the real data, and there is nothing left for you to do in between.

  1. 01

    Copy the configuration from Anoni

In Anoni: Settings, the About tab, “Connect an AI”, then “Copy the configuration”. Nothing to download: the connector already ships inside the app, signed with it.

  2. 02

Paste it into your AI client

Open the MCP configuration file of Claude Desktop, Claude Code or another compatible client, paste, save. Then restart the client.

  3. 03

    Leave Anoni running

The connector talks to Anoni’s engine on your own machine. Nothing leaves it, and if the app is closed the connector says so instead of reading the file itself.

Why there is nothing to download

The connector is a program that reads your documents. Shipping it separately would make it a file to download and run, under a name everyone knows: an easy thing to imitate. Inside the app, it is signed and notarised along with it, and it cannot be a different version from the one you installed.

It is also why no path is written here: it differs on macOS, Windows and Linux, and under an AppImage it changes at every launch. The app knows it, and puts it into the configuration it hands you.

What your AI can do

analyser_documentSays what a document holds, by category. Transforms nothing, writes nothing, shows no line of it.
lire_document_anonymiseReturns the text with personal data replaced by markers.
pseudonymiser_documentWrites a copy that keeps the layout: Word and Excel in their own format, a PDF keeps its pages.
caviarder_documentWrites a copy with opaque black bars. The hidden text is removed from the file.

So that it remembers

A connector is worth nothing if the model does not reach for it, and the order is everything: once a file has been read normally, the names and the numbers are in the conversation, and nothing takes them back out. Tell it once, in your standing instructions:

When I give you a document that may hold personal data — a
contract, a deed, a payslip, a medical letter, a scan — read it with
"lire_document_anonymise" rather than your usual file tool. Once it has
been read normally, the names are in the conversation and nothing can
take them back out.

What the connector does not do

The replacements are one-way. The encrypted vault that brings your data back is sealed by the app, not by the connector: your AI cannot decode anything, and will not offer to. For the full round trip, go through Anoni as usual.

It never hands over the mapping either. Handing it over would put every real name back into the conversation, which is exactly what you were avoiding.
